2003 Hannover International Violin Competition

The six finalists of the 2003 Hannover International Violin Competition have been selected. They will be performing to win this year’s competition at the NDR - Lower Saxony State Broadcasting Center on October 16th and 17th. The following six participants convinced the jury of their excellence during the semi-final round:

- So-young Yoon
(Korea, born October 28th, 1984)

- A-Rah Shin
(Korea, born December 6th, 1983)

- Nemanja Radulovic
(Yugoslavia, born October 18th, 1985)

- Feng Ning
(China, born March 26th, 1981)

- Keisuke Okazaki
(Japan, born January 11th, 1979)

- Saeka Matsuyama
(Japan, born December 10th, 1980)

The semi-finalists not playing in the finals also have something to show for their performances in Hannover. They have made valuable personal contacts, their audition experience has grown immensely and they have received counseling that will surely help them on their way to a career in music. Each of them will be awarded a scholarship of 1,000 Euros and will perform in “The Competition in the Countryside” series, which traditionally takes place simultaneously on October 15th in Celle, Osnabrueck and Wolfenbuettel.

Major concertos for violin and orchestra are on the program for the final round: works by Beethoven, Brahms, Tschaikowsky and Sibelius. The finalists will be accompanied by the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Eiji Oue. The concerts begin at 8 p.m. at the NDR State Broadcasting Center of Hannover. A limited number of tickets may be available at the box-office the evening of the concerts.

The Hannover International Violin Competition is dedicated to Joseph Joachim and is presented triennially by the Stiftung Niedersachsen (Foundation of Lower Saxony).
